Role of music during pregnancy

Music creates an impact on all living beings. Good and selective music might help to grow better plants and have calmer pets. Music exerts a powerful influence on human beings.

Impact of Music on human behavior

Music has incredible effects on the body.

Scientists have found that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other human function.

Research shows that music can help in many aspects of the brain, including pain reduction, memory, concentration, productivity, creativity, emotional balance, and stress reduction. It can boost memory, build task endurance, lighten your mood, reduce anxiety and depression, stave off fatigue, improve your response to pain, and help you work out more effectively.

Can music affect your health?

It can also reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, and decrease cortisol ( stress hormone) levels. Increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the blood. It elevates the mood.

Music can boost the brain's production of the hormone Dopamine. This increased Dopamine production helps relieve feelings of anxiety and depression.

If music creates an impact on all living beings then definitely it also has an impact on the fetus.

In normal conditions, fetal heartbeat is 128/min

Increased 20% while listening to music 155/min

Music is nothing but different sound frequencies

a fetus can sense music before learning the language.

•First music of life - Rhythmic sound of mother’s heartbeat

Calm, relaxed and stress-free mother- regular heartbeats

Irritated and tense mother- irregular heartbeats

Listening to all kinds of music encourages early brain development in the fetus because music facilitates neuron connections in the brain. Listening and experiencing music stimulates the fetus' brain and assists with the growth of brain structures. Music increases the unborn child's intelligence. Listening to specific music on a daily basis enhances Verbal memory, Creativity and Musical intelligence.

Benefits of listening to music regularly during pregnancy -

Strengthens the bond with your unborn baby

Music can evoke positive emotions, which in turn can create a prenatal stimulation that will help you to bond with your unborn baby. A stronger connection with your unborn child can enrich your and your baby's lives.

Improves your baby's movement

Believe it or not, the baby in your womb can also hear the music you're listening to. When the unborn baby hears the vibration, he/she may also try to move in sync with the beats. This may improve the baby's reflexes and reactions, as well as overall movement.

Increases your baby's auditory senses

When you listen to your favorite songs with headphones on, your baby may try to concentrate on the sound waves. This will improve his/her mental stimulation and significantly enhance the baby's concentration, auditory senses, and skills.

Can soothe your little one after birth

Some researchers say your unborn baby may be able to remember the music and the sounds that you listened to while you were pregnant even after birth. If this is true, you can use the same music to soothe your little one after he/she is born.

Music can shape your baby's personality

It is also believed that the type of music you listen to during your pregnancy can have an effect on the baby's overall personality. For example, a pregnant woman who listens to soothing sounds and soft music may have a baby with a calm personality. If you listen to music that is loud and jarring, your baby could develop an aggressive and anxious personality. However, there is not enough research yet to back this theory.

It's normal to feel a little worried and stressed when you're pregnant. But high levels of stress and anxiety during pregnancy can increase the risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, and a baby born with low birth weight. In pregnancy, the female body goes through a lot of hormonal changes which creates a roller coaster ride of emotions. In today’s life, everyone has some stress. Listening to music is an easy way to alter mood or relieve stress

Listening to music may help calm your mind and uplift your mood, which in turn helps lower your stress and anxiety levels. Music can also reduce any stress that the fetus may feel in the womb, experts say.

In Taiwan, a comparative study is conducted on 263 pregnant women of the 2nd and 3rd trimesters with equal status in education, finance & business. Also provides equal prenatal care, medicine & diet.

1 group – Listen to music daily for 2 weeks

2 group – Did not listen to music

At the end of the 2nd week, it is found that the level of stress, depression, and tension is lower down in the 1st group while higher in the 2nd group who did not listen to music at all.
