Prenatal Communication
You don't need to wait until your baby is born to bond with them. Pregnancy can be the perfect time to start forming an attachment with your unborn child, which is very important for their development once your baby has actually arrived.
From about 16 weeks babies can hear their mum’s voice, and by about 20 weeks they start to get to know other familiar voices too.Knowing unborn babies can hear you, gives you a great opportunity to begin communicating and building a bond with your baby even before they are born.
We have known and understood that mothers' emotions reach the fetus through chemical signals, the fetus can listen, understand, also respond and make changes into itself. So it is important for us that from now on we make it a part of our life, by telling the baby our emotions and by communicating to the baby. This activity provides a safe and healthy environment for the baby to grow.Your unborn baby loves to hear the sound of your voice.
It calms them and helps them to start to build the connection between you. They are not worried about what you say or how you sound..
Even whilst they are in the womb a baby can begin to build a bond with the people who love them.
Talk about anything to them; what you are doing, how you are feeling, what you need from the shops!
Sing favorite songs, nursery rhymes or something you’ve made up – you sound great to your baby.
Read a magazine, a children’s book - anything at all. It will give you and your baby the chance to tune into each other and all the time your baby will be getting to know familiar and safe voices.
Respond to your baby's kicks.
Gently touch and rub your belly, or massage it.
Talking, singing, and reading to your baby are great ways to connect and give you a chance to start some of the fun parts of being a parent. Say hi in the morning and good-night before you go to sleep, and chat about your day in between
Encourage your partner to get involved – your baby can get to know their voice and will be able to recognize it when they arrive. Siblings will also really enjoy talking to the bump and sharing songs and stories with them.
